~ Lizards, Roaches (YUCK!), Happy, Sad, Mad ~

It has been a VERY busy week around here! We have been researching and prepping for our Bearded Dragon (lizard). We have been reading and talking to people and buying items…including Dubia Roaches (YUCK! LOL). We did end up buying some to start our own colony as the per month monies for feeding a beardie were definitely going to be out of our price range. Raising these roaches will allow us to feed our girl plus possibly make a little money selling them to others (we’ll see how or if this part happens…really too early to tell yet).

So…we found a beardie from a breeder in Florida and were going to get her (happy!) but the weather was not cooperating (sad!) so we went to a local reptile shop we had later found out about and had a bit of a “run in” (mad!) at the beginning due to the length of the drive (an hour) and some vivarium lighting issues (for the cage we had). Ended up staying at the store and buying their set up and getting a FREE bearded dragon (happy again!).

So, with that…please welcome our Nala! We are VERY excited and happy to have her with us and are looking forward to our upcoming adventures!

She is five weeks old and measures about three inches (just her head and body – not her tail, obviously).

The reptile store we bought her from also included some crickets for her to eat…our first feeding experience was very interesting and even a little humorous. Some of her supper is sitting on her head in the picture below – we all got a little chuckle out of that.

We are excited to have her with us and will be posting more about our journey!

Have a wonderfully blessed day!

Exciting. Does that mean yu’re going to be breeding cockroaches to feed her on?

Not a pet person and definitely not into roaches. Have fun with yours.

One of my coworkers and her daughter got a bearded dragon about a year ago–they named him Spike and I always enjoy hearing about their adventures with him. Enjoy!

You are going to have fun with this! Enjoy, every new moment. Thanks for such very detailed photos, it’s always fun to see these little guys. My son wanted the bearded one, not sure of his entire name, but with our cats and dogs I thought he might better wait until he gets his own house, which he has now, and all they have is a cat!

I had forgotten that those folk can be bought and sold. Thank you. But I still don’t need one.
    You enjoy yours, Dawn.
