We had the pleasure to review Tales of the Wovlen: The Dragon’s Son which is the very first book of a budding author by the name of Kathryn Foglman. In all honesty, this is not a book you would think of as having a woman author!
The Wovlen people used to be a strong people with a kingdom but as a result of dragon invading and their own poor choices their kingdom had been taken from them so they became wanderers and outcasts. But there was a prophesy that one day everything would be restored by a boy of their royal line who would right the wrongs and unite his people.
The book starts with him as a boy and when his village is raided and destroyed he runs in to the woods where he meets with a dragon who “adopts” him and he becomes known as “a dragon’s son”. Time passes quickly and he becomes a man and he rescues a princess, meets an old man who is a prophet and rediscovers several survivors from his village. Without giving more of the story away, the book presents characters that leads to the pinnacle of the battle of evil and good.
The book covers his individual struggles with the things he has seen and the wrong decisions made. The book is written in such a way for you to knwo and keep guessing. All the pieces do come together for any questions you may have about it.
I really liked this book, it was a book that was REALLY hard to put down – it was one where you said, “just one more chapter”.
This book is written for and would be appropriate for teens or above.
Now…meet author Kathryn Fogleman:
Kathryn learned from a very early age the joys that reading a good book could bring. The fascinating stories from the Bible particularly set her imagination on fire. But it wasn’t until she was 10 years old that she learned the real power of the written word. For the first time ever, the imaginary people, worlds, and creatures she saw in her head could finally come to life – on paper. Since then, it has become Kathryn’s passion to write. Whether it is humor and thoughts on her personal blog, or the conflicts of the people and worlds in her head, she loves to write it out – for her own enjoyment and the enjoyment of others.

I love the classic fairy tale components of it all. I love the fact that it has a prince, a damsel in distress, and of course, a ferocious dragon. I’m looking forward to reading this!!!

Sounds just like a story that can keep my interest and my daughter’s too. I am always glad to be able to find books that both of us can read.

The part that sounds most intriguing to me is the fact that you said that it kept you guessing about the ending. I hate reading books where I know what’s going to happen before I even finished it.
