We had the opportunity to review BrainFood Learning‘s The Fascinating World of Birds video. The video runs about 30 minutes and offers a 10 minute review at the end. It retails for $14.99.

This video is packed FULL of learning in a fun way! The video footage is beautiful, colorful and fun. The sounds are perfect and really help you understand more about what you are watching.

Our entire family watched it and we all enjoyed it. It covers things like: Why and ostrich has rocks inside its body. how the penguin walks and slides, the beauty of the Canada Goose, how the owl is nocturnal, the amazing speed of a hummingbrids wings, the amazing way the woodpecker is put together for it’s specific trait of pecking wood, the beauty of the macaw, the size of what a pelican can eat, how the American Robin gets a worm and how quiet an eagle can be.

Just a few of the vocabulary words learned are: buoyancy, depth perception, metabolism and zygodactyl.

Even our cat liked it (he seriously looked as if he wanted to get some of those birds!)…

It is definitely a tool we would recommend to others. I refer to it as a “tool” because it isn’t simply a movie you watch. It grabs your attention and “sucks you in” to where learning is fun! Our 5 year old son was shouting out the answers to the questions – but we were all interested enough that we were answering too. (And to answer the questions you really needed to have watched the video and paid attention while doing so.)

You can watch a 3-minute preview HERE. There is also a study guide to go with it (which was offered at the end of the review period so I haven’t included anything about it). You can find it HERE.
