eBook Review & Giveaway ~ A Simple Start to Chalk Pastels

Photobucket

I have checked out several of the pastels posts by my fellow blogger friend Tricia over at Hodgepodge so I was super excited to have the opportunity to do a review and giveaway of her (and her mother’s) new ebook A Simple Start to Chalk Pastels.

This is a 100 page ebook covering some basics of art and pastels but mostly it has MANY projects you can do covering: landscapes, weather, food, trees, birds, flowers & butterflies and seasonal things. Each “project” has pictures to help guide, a supply list, tips and step by step instructions.

Please keep in mind that I am NOT creative and that I am a “follow the instructions” kind of person. I have a VERY hard time with generalities. Let’s just say the instructions in this ebook are very general. *wink* They leave plenty of room for individual creativity, which is hard for me, but works very good with this!

I will mention that somehow I missed that this is supposed to be done with soft pastels – and we have hard pastels – keep that in mind as you are looking at the pictures below. Here are what my family made…we had A LOT of fun working on all of these TOGETHER. It was some nice family time that didn’t involve technology. BONUS!

At first, I read the directions to the project titled “A Path to the Beach” and had everyone do their own picture. This is what we came up with:

Hubby (who is very artistic):

P (almost 5 year old):

Then J and I did one we each liked. Here is J’s “storm cloud”:

I love the idea of the pictures as sometimes a written description telling me what to do just doesn’t go into my visual brain.

I’ve bought a set of chalk pastels but they stay almost untouched. It looks like the book is starting with simple basic projects that would be great for novices.
