Worth More Than Money

My oldest son (15) just got back from TeenPact last night. Ever heard of TeenPact? It is an AMAZING program! Here is what it says on their website:

TeenPact is a dynamic, hands-on leadership school for Christian students. Our mission is to train youth to understand the political process, value their liberty, defend their Christian faith and engage the culture at a time in their lives when, typically, they do not care about such things.

The TeenPact experience is one of intentional growth, education and encouragement. We believe that God gives every young person a great spiritual capacity as well as a scriptural mandate to cultivate and use their talents – even before they are old enough to drive, work or vote!  TeenPact trains these young people to embrace their call as the next generation of leaders by giving them tools, teaching and opportunities.

Each TeenPact program is marked by spiritual discipleship, student leadership, parental involvement and a commitment to excellence. Our loyal base of parent volunteers and student leaders keep the vision alive and growing as we continue to expand nationally. Founded in 1994 by Tim Echols, TeenPact currently offers classes in 38 states and counting.

“Changing lives to change the world” is more than a motto to us. It’s literally what we do every day.

Let me say this isn’t the cheapest of programs but let me also say…fundraising is a great way to get monetary help. For us, the Lord worked absolute wonders and we had less than $40 that was out of our pocket. And if you know our pockets…you know they are pretty empty! (The Lord is really working hard to show us He is the one in control of our lives! *grin*) So, for us – our group of kids did several types of fundraising that helped with the hotel and travel expenses. Our group also provided the majority of the food so “eating out” expenses were minimal.

TeenPact also provides fundraising ideas for those who are interested. I took their advice of contacting different companies…and was so blessed by having our son’s tuition fee paid in full! Isn’t the Lord just absolutely amazing? Yes, He is! This part was the most amazing to me actually. I sent out emails and prayed, “Lord if it is Your will.” And within 30 minutes, we had the money. THAT was an undeniable “sign” our son was supposed to attend. We are SO VERY THANKFUL to The Old Schoolhouse Magazine and SchoolhouseTeachers.com for providing the tuition for our son to attend. Thank you is seriously not enough! {love and hugs!}

TeenPact has very high expectations and very impressive codes of conduct and dress codes. All the students are to wear their “Sunday” clothes every day to the Capitol ~ OUCH! LOL We’re used to hanging out in our pjs all day (ok, that’s a slight exaggeration, but you get the point, right?). But…I was told our group of kids (which was about 25, out of the 90+ that attended) were the most impressive of all…they all were dressed VERY nicely!

For me, the VERY BEST PART was when my son was dropped off, wearing his “Sunday best” and looking so happy (and very grown up). Once in the house, I asked, “On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the best – how would you rate this experience?” Without hesitation he gave it a “10!” and said he wants to go back next year. (This was our first year having him attend, and I had pretty much planned on it being the only year…guess we’ll have to start planning for next year. *grin*)

And the next best thing…was having my son put a cd in the player that he bought at TeenPact…which was Christian music. My heart melted! You see, part of what they did the four days there was to pray and worship and talk about the Lord in their lives. (He said he sang too! And I missed it! I’ve been trying to get him to sing for YEARS! Wonder if I’ll get to hear him on Sunday? Probably not. LOL)

As a bonus, I believe this program is worth some high school credit hours (WOOT!) but I need to find out more about this part.

So, even though we ended up paying very little out of our pockets, I have been thinking…some life experiences are simply worth far more than money! Praise the Lord for this amazing opportunity!

(The kids weren’t allowed to take their phones, iPods, etc into the Capitol building ~ and I wasn’t able to actually attend the four day session…I left him in the very capable hands of some very special homeschool families ~ so I don’t have any pictures to share, unfortunately.)

Have a wonderfully blessed day!
