If you are looking for a fast-paced, easy-to-read Bible study book, this is for you (or your kids, actually). Each “chapter” consists of two pages; page one has a “What’s Up” area that is a few sentences that give a little history providing background and context. The majority of both pages are a story of the scriptures of that section (using the NLT). There is also little cartoon on the second page, along with a “Now What?” section which is sort of an “how to apply this to your life today” area. Each chapter also has a key verse.
Some of the 101 Scriptures covered are:
God Makes a World (Genesis 1; 2:3)
Angels All Around (Genesis 28:10-22
The Burning Bush (Exodus 3:1-18; 4:1-16, 21-23)
Deborah Goes to War (Judges4)
Kindness in Action (2 Samuel ()
The Writing on the Wall (Daniel 5)
Amazing Faith (Luke 7:1-10)
Death of a Savior (Matthew 27:27-66)
The Final Battle (Revelation 19)
For me, I think this might make a nice gift for a young person. It isn’t something that I would consider “serious Scripture” study or reference (which I don’t believe was the original intent).
Would I recommend this book? I would, for someone maybe new to the Bible and it’s meaning – for the beginnings of explaining some of the most common “Bible stories”. And maybe as something a bit more relaxed for those more experienced with Scripture. In my opinion, anything that is Scripturally correct is a good thing to have before our young ones!
