3rd Annual (Not) Back-to-School Hop ~ Week 1: Curriculum

Photobucket

This week starts the 3rd Annual (Not) Back-to-School Blog Hop – however, this is my first year participating. I’d like to send a BIG shout-out to Heart of the Matter for hosting this hop.  Thank you!

So, each week in the month of August is a different theme within this hop – this is week one and the topic is curriculum.  WOOT! Being homeschoolers, if there is ONE THING we LOVE to talk about ~ it is curriculum.  How many of us are curriculum junkies?  Raise your hand with me ladies! 🙂

Well, I have two boys – a 14 year old (9th Grade – yes, the FIRST YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL – YIKES! how did that happen???) and a 3 year old who will be working on some different pre-k stuff.

For the older boy (I mean, young man), here is what we will be using:

Math-U-See Zeta then Pre-Algebra (we are going to do / finish Zeta double time so he can get moving on his Pre-Algebra)

History: Ancient Civilizations

Science: we are going to start with Botany then see where we go from there.  We were going to do Biology, but a couple of his homeschool friends will be doing that next year and they all want to do it (the labs, etc) together.  THIS is ONE of the awesome things about homeschooling…PLANS CHANGE so the kids get more out of it!

English: Analytical Grammer and The Write Foundation

Foreign Language: Latin Alive! (started / reviewed it as a part of the TOS Homeschool Crew last year.  Read my post TOS Crew Review – Latin Alive!.)

Bible: we were going to do The Life of Christ, but now I’m not sure – still deciding on this one.  🙂

Art: Artistic Pursuits

Elective: Typing

For the “lil man” we will be using a mixture of anything I can get him to do for a minute or two!  🙂  I have several things for him:

Artistic Pursuits
Kumon books
Confessions of a Homeschooler: Letter of the Week ~and~ K4 Curriculum
Little People Readers
Preschool Activities in a Bag
Leading Little Ones to God

For him, I just want learning to be FUN! so that is where our focus will be.

I am SO EXCITED to hop over to other ladies blogs to see what they have planned.  If you stopped by, please say “Hi!” so I can make sure to visit you as well.

Have a wonderfully blessed day!

We are also going to be using the Letter of the Week. Even though my kids are a bit older, some of them need a firmer foundation in that because for two of my kids, English is their second language and they never learned the basics.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the Math suggestion. I will be looking into it!

I also use The Write Foundation! We started with “The Paragraph” and loved the program. This year we will be working through “The Essay” over two year’s time.

Sounds like you have a great year ahead of you.

Sounds like a great year planned. I don’t know how you do it with a 3 yr old too. We are doing botany as well this year. Hope you have a great year!
